Week 15 Reflection

I cannot believe that this semester is basically over. I am so glad this class enabled us to tap into our creative sides. The use of blogger has actually inspired me to take notes this way. I love that you can label it  and it can be accessible on any computer without having to email it to yourself. The tech tips have definitely helped me in improving how I take notes on blogger, especially how to add YouTube videos on here. I also liked that it made me see that it is nice to write about things other than stats and research. Though we did a lot of writing for this class, it wasn't as daunting as I thought it would be. I am really proud of my story book project. It was also really cool seeing everyone else's creative projects as well. Just wanted to add this video to end the class on a high note. Have a good holiday everyone!

Week 15: Reading Evaluations

My Favorite Readings for the Semester:

My advice to the new batch of students coming in next semester is to only do one reading diary a week. Since it is only two points, it can easily replaced by an extra credit assignment, something I wished I had realized sooner in the semester. This way, it doesn't seem like so much reading. Also, using bullet points in your reading diaries helps out a lot. At first, I thought the balance between all the reading, writing, and commenting was going to be difficult.  However, once you get the hang of it, it really wasn't too bad. I also really recommend taking advantage of the librovox audio. You can listen to the stories all while checking your emails, facebook, ect.         I saw this on the announcement blog and wanted to share. I guess school is a special kind of hell, but at least we can get out! I can relate most to layer I, V, and VI.

Week 15 Tech Tip: Embed a Facebook Photo

Hello, I have some great news! My cat went missing three months ago and on Monday, my roommate found him at the Norman Animal Shelter! He was literally one street over hanging out with a bunch of cats. My baby is back home and i could not be any happier about it!

Week 15: Growth Mindset

Welcome to my very last growth mindset quote for the semester! I was so inspired from reading these great quotes and memes, that I wanted to incorporate some of my favorites on to my chalk board calendar I have hanging up. It was blank for the longest. However, after hearing about Carol Dweck and her teachings on the growth mindset, I knew I had to incorporate it into my every day life.

Week 13 Story Telling: Harry and The Tortuga

        Harry and Tim have been best friends since before they were even born. Their mother's met at Lamaze class 18 years and 7 months ago, and have been inseparable ever since. So when it was time to pick out the college of their dreams, there was no question as to who would be each other's roommate. Harry was always on the fast track in life. He was the first to get a girlfriend, the first to get his acceptance letter, and he was even on the track team. Tim, however, was kind of a perfectionist so he was slow at everything he did. His friends and family even nicknamed him, "El Tortuga", which is Spanish for The Turtle. Every one thought it was a very fitting nickname for he moved at the pace of molasses. 

               Though the two lived in the same dorm room, their first semester at college, were very different from each other. Harry spent most of his time playing video games, hanging out with girls, and going to parties. The only time he would study for his exams was the day prior. "You may be smart, but you still have to read," el tortuga would tell his very best friend. Harry would always reply that he had everything under control.  Tim was the complete opposite. Like the true perfectionist he was, he went to every single class, read every assignment, and only went out to go tailgating.
                 At the end of the semester, Harry started to realize he was making Ds in all of his classes. During dead week, he stayed at the library and studied his butt off. He did realize that Tim was very calm, cool, and collected about his classes.
               "Why aren't you freaking out about finals, dude?" Harry frantically asked Tim.
               "I've been making As all semester, I only need like a fifty to pass with an A in all my classes," Tim explained to him. In the end, Tim graduated early, while Harry graduated a year late, despite starting at the same time.

Author's Note: This is a modern retelling of The Tortoise and the Hare. I wanted to imply the message that hard work does pay. Harry had every opportunity to graduate at the same time as his friend but decided he wanted to play around. Similar to the Hare thinking he had enough time to beat the Tortoise even with a nap. Week 13 Extrea Reading Diary A: La Fontain

The Tortoise and the Hare

• Classic story
• The hare falls asleep allowing the tortoise to win the race
• I like this story because it teaches some one not to be cocky and that nothing is ever in the bag so to speak.

The Dog and His Image

• This story made me laugh because it reminds me of something my dog would do.
• A dog sees himself in the reflection in the water. Since he had a bone, his reflection did too. He jumped at the reflection thinking it was another bone and almost drowned in the process. 
• He also lost his first bone. 

The Hen with the Golden Eggs

• Another lesson in greed.
• A hen laid eggs of gold and a man wanted it for himself. 
• Instead of the egg, I guess he thought the hen was made out of gold? I am not sure. But he cut the hen's head off and explored her insides. 
• The hen was dead and could no longer lay her golden eggs.
• That man had a good thing going and ruined for himself. How foolish. 

The Frog Who Wished to Be an Ox

• A silly frog puffed himself up big he blew up.
• All that just to be an ox.

Nov. 29

This man is pretty entertaining and he made me want to actually watch this 20 minute video. I am so glad that someone had the nerve to challenge the overly diagnosis of ADD.

I added a cool weather widget to my side bar! What is your favorite kind of weather? Personally, I love the Fall weather. It is not too warm and not too cool. You can wear jeans and a hoodie or shorts and a tshirt.

Week 12 Extra Reading Diary [Nursery Rhymes]

Nursery Rhyme Jingles:

• Who doesn't know the first two lines of rub a dub dub? However, I honestly think this is the first time I have actually read the whole thing.
• Another jingle I was familiar with is Hey Diddle Diddle. 

Nursery Rhyme Love and Matrimony:

• Jack and Jill! 
• The cutest nursery rhyme was of the little boy and girl in the alley that is for sure. 
• The wife in the wheel barrow was a little morbid.

Nursery Rhyme Natural History:

• I did my first storytelling post on the owl in the haunted barn. 
• Like Three Men in the Tub I don't think I actually read Baa, Baa, Black Sheep in its entirety.

Nursery Rhyme Accumulative:

The House That Jack Built

• The House That Jack Built really reminded me of the style in the Twelve Days of Christmas. In which one new thing is added while the other lyrics are repeated after. Every story starts with that which I believe is called Anaphora. I liked the use of repetition. 
• Another story that is reminiscent to an anaphora is the Key of the Kingdom. I liked the generalization of something to something really specific.

Nursery Rhyme Relics:

• Little Miss Muffet was one of my favorite nursery rhymes as a child. 
• What Little Boys Are Made of was also really cute. I like the line, "sugar and spice and everything nice".

Week 12 Reading Diary B [Alice in Wonderland]

The tea party consisted of riddles, the hatter, a march hare, and a sleepy dormouse. After much bickering, Alice sees one of the trees had a door leading up to it. Tired of the tea party she decides that she would probably manage better somewhere else. She nibbled on a piece of mushroom to grow taller and kept some for later. She then found herself in a beautiful garden. 

I'm the garden Alice finds three gardeners painting white roses red. They say it is to please the queen or it will be off with their heads. Then the queen and the royal court come out and sees what they are doing. She says off with her head to Alice for over speaking and the three gardeners. It doesn't happen. We find out that the duchess is in jail for offending the queen. The queen invites Alice to a game of croquet but everyone cheats in favor of the queen. She sees the Cheshire cat and he does not want to look at the king so the king asks the queen to off his head but the executioner can't behead a head without a body. Alice says he belongs to the duchess to give him time to disappear. 

The next scene begins in the courthouse. The hatter and the tea crew were the first witness but didn't really say an thing of importance. The second witness was the duchess's cook and surprisingly the last witness was Alice. Nonsense happens and we find that everything was just a dream.

Week 11 Review

November 11

Fight Club is one of my favorite movies and has one of my favorite actors, Edward Norton. When I saw this play off the movie title, I found it hilarious. Also, who doesn't right click on word so we can find a synonym for however.

I have one more character to do for my story book and I am not going to lie, I have a severe case of writer's block. I went to YouTube to grab some inspiration and came across this really cool fight scene with Medusa.
