Introduction: Boomer Sooner 2015

My name is Mary Tudtud. I'm from the Dallas area, specifically Plano. This is my first semester as a Sooner. I am a junior looking to get a Bachelors in biology. I would like to get into an accelerated nursing program after graduation however, as I explore more into my major, I am getting more interested in biological research. I am currently studying for my GRE on top of my studies, so we shall see what the future holds. I wanted to go to OU so I could experience something new. I have never lived so far from my family but it has made me stronger and more independent. My favorite person in the world is my mother. She is my biggest inspiration and supporter. Without her, I would not be the woman I am today.
I have an incredibly spoiled dachshund named Jackson. Seriously, my dad cooks him fresh chicken and will buy him fried rice at our favorite restaurant just for him. I also have one kitten named Liam who has an affection for paper towels. He loves to tear them up and before writing this post I had to clean up a roll he demolished. Man, he's lucky he's so cute.
Jackson's first day at his forever home, three years ago.

He really hates paper products, though!

During the Summer, I took a few online classes while trying to master the art of Call of Duty Exo Zombies. I also picked up the weird hobby of couponing. As a college student paying my way through school, it is always important to save money and it has helped my roommates and I tremendously.

Update:
Unfortunately, Liam got out and after weeks of looking for him, he still hasn't made his way home. I miss him dearly and I hope he is OK.

  1. Oh, your dog is such a cutie, Mary, and so is your kitten. We've got a cat who loves to shred paper, especially paper napkins; I'll go into the kitchen sometimes and there will be a neat little heap of shredded napkin, testimony to his energetic efforts! You'll see that I've got "growth mindset" cats in the announcements every day, so maybe you will make Jackson or Liam famous in our class by turning a photo you have taken into a meme! It's easy to do with cheezburger or any of those meme-generator sites, and it's even more fun when the animals in the picture are the furry friends of someone you know. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the class... it should be able to provide for a fun break from studying for the GRE! :-)

  2. I am glad to find another person who loves their dog as much as I do! When my dog, Ted, was a puppy I used to make him scrambled eggs every night because I once read that it was really good for his skin and coat. My mom thought I was crazy. Funnily enough, I also used to feed Ted fried rice too. He even ate them off of chopsticks for me, because he's a babe. Good luck on the GRE too; I have that coming in my future as well and I am not really looking forward to that.

  3. What part of Dallas are you from? I lived there for about six years when I was a kid. Currently I'm living in San Antonio, when I'm not up here! Although your dog is spoiled I think my pups take the prize on being the most pampered. I've got a yellow lab and a black lab retriever, both of them think they are lap dogs! They cuddle in bed with us at night, they get most of our leftovers at dinner, and I kid you not my mom feeds them off of a spoon or fork when giving them leftovers. Their favorite food is asparagus! How often do you hear that phrase?!

  4. Hi Mary! Welcome to the University of Oklahoma! My new roommate is also a junior, it is her first semester here too, and she is also a biology major. Wow, what a small world!
I am incredibly jealous of your dog. I have been wanting one for years now, but I think I finally will get one once I graduate in December!
I applaud you for paying your way through school, because I have done the same for four and a half years. It seems tough sometimes but as I am finally finishing, I promise you, it will be so worth it in the end!

  5. Hey Mary!
I'm from Dallas too, always good to see a fellow Texan in the Sooner state! I also have a very spoiled dog, and my dad will cook her an egg and put it in her food, which is actually kind of making her fat so he should probably stop doing that haha. So cool that you want to be a nurse or do biological research, who knows maybe one day you'll find a cure for cancer! Best of luck to you!!

  6. Hey Mary!
I am from the Dallas area, too! I am from Flower Mound specifically. It's so great that you want to get into the nursing program. A lot of my best friends are in the nursing program at OU and they love it! I hope the best for you with nursing. Your dog is so adorable. I have an obsession with wiener dogs so Jackson looks like a great dog! I hope you have a great semester and good luck with all of your classes this semester.

  7. Hi Mary!
Welcome to OU! I hope you are liking it so far. I love Norman, because it has such a college town feel to it. Biology seems like it would be a good major to have, and it is cool you are starting to like it more the more you get into it. I actually think the closer you get to getting a degree, and taking more upper division classes the more it shows you what things are really about. Your dog does sound spoiled, I bet he loves it though. Hope you have an awesome rest of your semester!

  8. Hi, Mary!

Liam and Jackson are such cuties! And what great names, haha! From the way you said that Jackson found his forever home and your comments on my intro post - would it be safe to assume he is adopted? If so, I am happy he's found a home where he can be spoiled rotten! Good luck with your GRE!

  9. Hi Mary! I think that Jackson is adorable, and Liam looks pretty ocmfy as well! I think you used some great captions for their photos. Welcome to the Sooner family! What made you transfer into OU as a junior? Also, the GRE sounds stressful! I hope your animals can help you unwind as you are continuing your studies. It was great to meet you Mary!

  11. Hi Mary!

Personally, I feel like it’s completely fine that your dog gets restaurant quality food sometimes. After seeing some of the horrible food people give their way overweight dogs sometimes, it’s good to see that Jackson gets fresh chicken haha. My roommate is in nursing school right now and OU really does have a great program. So good luck with everything!!

  12. Hi Mary! Nice to meet you. Welcome to OU! Hope you love it here. I am a junior also but any medical major always seems harder than anything else to me. So good job on picking a major and good luck. Also, I am sorry to hear that your cat got out. I hope he is okay and that you find him safely.

  13. Hey Mary! I hope you are liking OU and all the great things it has to offer! Your decision in taking the GRE is a good one because trying out different things is good in my mind. I hope living far from your family has not been to hard. I know sometimes you can get a little melancholic from missing your family. Wow! your dog really is spoiled. I think thats ok though! as long as your companion keeps you happy, you should keep your companion happy! As for you cat i hope he is ok and you end up finding him. It was nice to meet you!

  14. Hi Mary! I hope that you are enjoying Oklahoma! I know how you feel about being away from home, especially since I'm so close to my mother as well. We are best friends and I hate when we're apart for a long time. My dog is just as spoiled, although he is significantly bigger than a dachshund! His paw probably weighs more than Jackson!

I love the background of your blog, by the way! Kind of reminds me of Sherlock, the BBC show. Love it!

  15. Hey Mary! Both of your pets are so cute! I lived in Frisco for a bit and went to school and Prestonwood. I liked the Dallas area, but Oklahoma has a much slower pace of life I believe. I agree with you that moving from home making you more independent and grown. I'm able to do so much more for myself! p.s. I hope you find Liam :(

It was good to get to know a bit about you and I hope you have a great rest of the semester!

  16. Hi mary!

I am not a big dog person but I do have a cat and I love him even though he lives with my parents now. I do hope your cat returns one day!
I am also a biology major and all I have to say about it is that I am so happy that I am almost done with it. It gets really overwhelming to take semesters jam packed with heavy science. I am sure that you will rock your GRE! Good luck to you and your endeavors.

  17. Hey Mary!

  19. Hi Mary, it's nice to meet you. I'm a biology major as well but I'm graduating this semester. Welcome to Norman. I hope you are enjoying our little college town and the OU experience.

I wish you luck on the GRE. I took it this spring and it wasn't so bad. I'm sure you will do great.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitten. I hope he returns home soon or that he is at least somewhere safe. I've been trying to talk my husband into a cat for years. Sometimes they are too curious for their own good and wander off.

  20. Hello Mary!
I love your design and layout of your blog! I also like the picture of your dog as well, too cute! Enjoy every second here at OU because it goes by way too fast. Great to meet you!

  21. I am sorry to hear about your cat! Hopefully he has returned, but if he has not, have you tried putting something with his scent outside? My previous cat fell off the balcony once and I found him the next day in a hole he had dug next to the wall, right under the balcony. I hope your kitty is okay!

My sister loves couponing. Every month I get an envelope from her of coupons for stuff I've never even heard of!

Good luck with studying for your GRE!

  22. Hey Mary,
So sad to hear about your cat, I hope that you find him soon! On an another note, I also hope that you get into nursing school here, it is such a cool profession and I hope that you get to do it if it is your passion. I also know what you mean about spoiled pets, I have a very spoiled boxer at home and my dad will cook an egg every morning to put in her food, it is kind of ridiculous but I love the dog so I don't care!
